It becomes more important in the case of a hard-of-hearing judge, defendant, witness, lawyer or the accused; Realtime text needs to be provided in such cases to the concerned person so that he can properly understand each and every word of the proceeding.

Communication Access Real-time Translation court reporters have become very important these days as it also useful for assisting people with trails which are not in their first language or conversely for people who have to give a testimony in some other language than their native language. Captioning is used for such cases so that everyone can understand what is being spoken. A trained CART court reporter translates whatever is spoken inside the courtroom into written transcripts which is then shown on a big screen or individual laptops inside the courtroom, all in Realtime.

Another method which is popular for Realtime reporting is voice writing. In this method the court reporter speaks whatever is said inside the courtroom into a steno mask. Voice recognition software converts all the said words into textual transcripts instantly. The skills required for such reporting are speed and accuracy. The reporter needs to be sure of the accuracy of the transcript produced as it is displayed in Realtime and even a small statement being out of place can change the whole meaning of the sentence.
